There's NO Place Like Home: Bartley & Gizzy Find Families

November 12, 2009

Bottles of Champagne were popped open in celebration this past October when two of the SCCA staff and volunteer favorites, Bartley and Gizzy, found their forever homes! The doggie duo are two of our longest SCCA residents at nearly a year long stay. Their journey of survival began long before their time at SCCA in the town of Dilkon on the Navajo Reservation.

The pair spent their time roaming the town together, searching for a kind hand to feed them. They ate, slept and played together every day and found refuge behind the town’s grocery store.

Bartley and Gizzy were fortunate to find a human companion in a local vendor, coined the Stew Lady. The Stew Lady shared her lunch with the dogs every time she came to town to sell her stew and even let them stay in her trailer during bad weather. Unfortunately, the Stew Lady passed away and the harsh winter weather called for aid for both pooches. A Good Samaritan, Nancy Honeychuck brought Bartley and Gizzy to SCCA.

Since November of 2008, these two have had a reliable source of food in their bellies and a warm blanket to sleep on at SCCA, but nothing can compare to the victory of finding families of their own.

Thanks to the dedication of volunteers, staff and donors, Bartley and Gizzy were given the time and care they needed to find their families this past October. These are the triumphs we work for each day. These are the triumphs you make possible!
