To volunteer with the Second Chance Center for Animals you must:
- be 18 years of age or older or accompanied by a parent or guardian
- be able to speak, read & write English

- Attend orientation on the first Wednesday of the month from 5:30-7 pm, and handling class/interview the Saturday following the first Wednesday from 12-2:30 pm.
Please notify the Administrative Director as early as possible @ 714-2210 if you need to change or cancel your shift.
You are responsible for reviewing information posted on the bulletin board each time you are at the Center.
Hours: You must document your hours in the Volunteer Log Book, located in the Volunteer Office. When you begin your shift log your start time in the volunteer hours log book and put your name & time in the area of work on the white board. Remember to sign out in the Log book and on the board when you leave. Off-site volunteer hours must also be documented at the site or e-mailed or called in to the Volunteer Coordinator. All volunteer hours must be received no later than the end of the Month.
Dress/Uniforms: Because we are a business, we require volunteers to wear appropriate clothing when at the center or special events. Clean long pants or jeans without holes (no shorts), rubber soled shoes with socks (no open shoes), volunteer apron (at Center) and a name tag are the required attire unless otherwise directed. Red T-shirts are worn at Petsmart & other off-site events.
Parking: Please park behind the Center on the red cinders (behind the bark park). Do Not park in the front or side parking lots. Enter the center using the back employee/volunteer entrance.
Lockers: Volunteer need to provide their own lock to lock up personal items. Locks need to be removed at the end of each shift.
If you have questions regarding procedures, policies or events check with the Volunteer Coordinator.
All volunteer and customer injuries must be reported to the Animal Care Manager IMMEDIATELY. Animal bites MUST be documented and reported to Coconino County Animal Control; reports are to be compiled by the person bitten and the Shelter Manager or Volunteer Coordinator. Please remember to retain a copy for your records if you are bitten or witness a bite. A copy MUST be forwarded to the Volunteer Coordinator. IF YOU ARE BITTEN OR SCRATCHED, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO SEEK APPROPRIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION. See your personal physician; go to an emergency clinic or to the hospital. First aid kits are available. A portable kit is in the reception area.
Adopters MUST be at least 18 yrs of age. This also applies to volunteers who wish to adopt. No one under 18 (except volunteers) is permitted in the kennel area without the supervision of an adult. Customers under 18 cannot request to see an animal or have sole control of an animal at any time. Contact a SCC staff member if you encounter any difficulties with customers.
NEVER OFFER MEDICAL ADVICE: recommend a visit to a veterinarian. Questions regarding housetraining, care or general training can be directed to the Education Director or kennel staff. Animal behavior questions should be directed to Rich Cormier, animal behaviorist.
